Investigating the evolution of Iranian female athletes' sportswear during the Olympic periods in terms of aesthetic dimension and determination of effective factors in their design (a case study of air pistol shooting)

Objective: Sportswear suitable for Islamic affairs is not exclusive to Iranian women, and Muslim women who participate in national and international competitions all over the world and take steps to improve their sports level, need clothes that suit their beliefs. Today, in the field of hijab, changes in the rules related to women's clothing at the international level have been made by sports federations so that veiled women can easily engage in their sports activities, but still many federations oppose women's hijab under the name of athlete safety. In this research, an attempt has been made to explain the sportswear of Iranian female athletes in the field of pistol shooting in terms of aesthetics and to examine the background factors influencing their design. The questions that this research aims to answer are: Iranian-Islamic standards , what are the aesthetic aspects and also the criteria of decoration in women's clothes of Iranian pistol shooting in the Olympics? And what are the factors influencing the dominant gender and color in the clothing of Iranian female pistol athletes in the Olympics?

Methods: The present research approach on the sportswear of Iranian Olympic women, while considering functional considerations and aesthetic features, examines the sportswear of Iranian women who have made their way to the Olympic Games after the revolution and describes the factors affecting their design and production under functional components. Using the descriptive-analytical method and library sources. The clothing used by Iranian female Olympians was analyzed using pictures from reputable domestic and foreign websites, and evaluated based on the aesthetics, which explains the Form and face, decoration, color and signs and symbols.

Results: The results showed that factors such as religion, type of sport, culture, and geographical conditions have had a technical and artistic impact on the design of these clothes. Additionally, the changes in the design were gradual and attempted to be more specialized in terms of gender and type of sport for women. This research have shown that the design and production of women's clothes for pistol shooting and its gradual changes during the Olympic periods from 2000 to 2020 have been visually and technically influenced by the background factors of religion, type of sport and geographical conditions; The aforementioned garment, which was initially only used for covering, in recent years, we have seen improvements in terms of beauty, although insufficient. One of the clothing priorities for women, in addition to the headscarf, is covering the waist area. For this purpose, a sarafan is used.

Conclusions: The study delves into the aesthetics of Muslim women's clothing in these competitions, illustrating the alterations in attire from the initial Olympic presence over time. Factors contributing to these changes include the increasing allocation of Olympic sports disciplines and the gradual acceptance of hijab by sports federations. For instance, the most significant transformations in headscarves are observed in technical and artistic aspects, encompassing design, fabric type, color, patterns, cuts, and patterns.
